Nsukka Legends Football Academy was founded on 9th May 2020 by Meshack Ogonna Ugwuishi, who also served as the Head Coach of the academy until 1st October 2025, when he stepped down to take up the position of Managing Director.
Meshack’s great passion for football led to the formation of the academy. However, in 2022, the academy ceased operations as Meshack left Nsukka to pursue his football dreams in Abuja. As a result, the academy remained inactive for two years (2022 and 2023). Following an unsuccessful career pursuit in Abuja, he returned to Nsukka in 2024 and revived the academy, this time focusing fully on coaching. By then, he had gathered valuable experience from playing in four different football academies across Nigeria.
One year after reviving the academy, Eze Daniel Tobechukwu, a professional footballer based in Europe and CEO of Kamil and Iwonna Foods, purchased majority shares in the academy. His involvement marked a turning point for Nsukka Legends Football Academy. A standard football camp was established for the players, and a Vocational Training Academy was attached to it—offering skills such as computer programming, fashion designing, and barbing alongside football development.
With this new structure, Eze Daniel Tobechukwu now serves as the CEO of the academy, while Meshack Ogonna Ugwuishi remains the Managing Director. Both men are the sole owners of the academy. They have since gone on to appoint a new Head Coach and a new Academy Director to strengthen the academy’s operations and technical capacity.
The academy has also leveraged social media to build connections, one of which resulted in a partnership with Chimezie Emenike, a FIFA-licensed agent based in Norway, who works with Speyro Agency. After watching the academy during a scouting program in Enugu, Mr. Emenike expressed interest in a talented player, Amoke Johnharmson, and facilitated his move to De Shacks Football Academy in Ijebu for further development ahead of a potential move to Europe.
Nsukka Legends Football Academy is located at Iheagu Nru Nsukka, with its training ground at Ekeagu Primary School, Nru Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria.
The academy’s long-term vision and mission is to build a clear and professional pathway for players from Nsukka to Europe. With a strong emphasis on player development and consistent exposure through scouting programs, the academy remains committed to shaping the next generation of football talents.
